However, now I need to narrow down my topic and decide whether to talk about how advertisements increase the sexualization of little girls or how TV shows increase the sexualization of little girls.
In the case of advertisements, we can clearly see the negative effect that that the Bratz doll's adds have on girls. The companies who produce Bratz advertise the dolls itself, creating the idea on girls that in order to be acceptable they need to be hot. Besides, just for profit, companies also imitate the clothes that these Bratz dolls wear and create the actual size for little girls. Now, think about it. Is it really ok for a 5 year-old-girl to wear a tight shirt with the words "Super Babe" written on it? And, is it ok for a little girl to show her belly just to look sexier? I don't know you guys, but in my point of view, this is a little over the top.
Moreover, TV shows also increase the sexualization of little girls tremendously. We see a clear example in the show Toddlers and Tiaras.
"Toddlers & Tiaras is an American reality series that debuted on TLC during 2009. The show concerns child beauty pageants, each episode examining three different pageant contestants and their families as the children prepare for their pageant shows" (Wikipedia).
In my opinion, Toddlers and Tiaras is a show that just promotes the sexualization of girls. Yes, maybe watching little girls complain and cry about "arriving late to Diva Day" may so somewhat funny to watch, but let's keep in mind that these girls are 3-year-olds. I can laugh a couple of minutes while watching the show, but actually when you notice that media is harming these girls--and other girls as well-- you start thinking that the show is just wrong. I don't know about you guys, but in my opinion, sexualizing 3-year-old girls is wrong.
