For our English class, we had to read
The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien. It is a wonderful book about Tim O Brien's memories of the Vietnam war and his life after war. Even though he says it is fiction, events from the war are recalled and retold again with different characters.
This is a podcast I did as a project about this book.
Hi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteSorry I haven't responded to your summer project until now. Most people emailed me to tell me where their project was at, and I haven't looked over those first. Here is my feedback on your podcast:
What works:
- Great music choices in the beginning of your podcast.
- You describe the novel's themes and purpose extremely well.
- In-depth analysis of the passage in the first chapter---"Confusion equals cowardice." You're right, this idea of cowardice vs. courage is essential to understanding the novel.
- Great point: soldiers were more concerned about their reputations than death!! This will become an important theme in Othello as well.
- :) Ha! Nice transition into the Pepsi commercial!
- Cool integration of Twitter into your podcast. It makes it feel authentic.
- "Men killed and died because they were embarrassed not to." YES!
- Some of your analysis is interesting and in-depth, but I would've like to have heard more.
What still needs work:
- You speak patiently and enunciate clearly, but work on speaking a little more quickly.
- Work at times on pronunciation of words: at 7:22 it's unclear what the word is.
Overall, EXCELLENT podcast. It's clear that you understand the novel well and have worked hard to convey that!
